Social Media In Photography



Date: 30 August – 31 August 2014.



Idea:
The idea is to lay stress on the usage of social media in learning, collaborating and personal branding for photographers. With the advent of social media, this part of the world is exposed to a range of good work and stands inspired today, with very little proper guidance in channelized way.
They aim to bring reputed photographers, young photographers, bloggers, digital marketers and social media experts on one platform to exchange views and perhaps brainstorm the way forward.


Event Brief:
They will lay stress on three aspects:
Learning: To connect to eminent photographers who are visible online and finds time to reply to doubts, shares vision of spreading education through social media.

Collaborating: To connect young photographers to bloggers and social media pundits and explain basics of Intellectual property rights, how photographers can benefit from bloggers and blogging and vice versa and how in all the endeavour, promote Brand Bengal. Kolkata Bloggers will be showcasing a few bloggers from the region.

Personal Branding: In today’s competitive world, this is the most required when we want to make an entity of ourselves. Social media provides an excellent platform for doing so. This session’s aim is to connect photographers to eminent digital marketers who are experienced and renowned all over the nation.


Session Details and about:
Jomiye Adda #1 & 2:
Jomiye Adda aims to bring the experienced photographs to the younger ones to share their experiences of photographying over the years. They shall showcase a few of their photographs and invite questions from the audience. We shall also discuss a few contemporary problems we face while photographing, processing and publishing and how we can mitigate that.

9:00 AM – 12:00 PM : Basic Photography talk by Apratim Saha.
1:00 PM – 04:30 PM : Jomiye Adda ( Lopamudra Talukdar, Soumya Shankar Ghosal, Hari Menon)
On 30th August they shall have with them Mr. Hari Menon, Mr. Apratim Saha, Mr. Soumya Shankar Ghosal and Mrs. Lopamudra Talukdar.
Hari Menon is an extremely popular name in the contemporary photography world. Hailing from Kerala, he does travel photography, editorials, advertisements, fashion shoots. He uses the digital medium to connect to people, plan and further his career. The number of people subscribing to his page right now is 688821.
Apratim Saha has his own pharmaceutical company. But that does not stop him from teaching in a photography school in Siliguri. He has had numberless publications in magazines, newspapers both online and offline. He is a National Geographic Stock Photographer and a member of Getty images.
Soumya Shankar Ghosal is a street photographer almost every young photographer aspire to meet and interact with. In the last couple of years he has had publications in National Geographic Traveller India, NationalGeographic.com to Better Photography, The Times of India. He got mentioned in CGAP World Bank Photo Contest in 2013 and has won several awards from Nikon, Fuji films, Olympus. He is a management consultant with MSME, MBA Finance.
Lopamudra Talukdar, has some excellent collection of Travel Photographs of Middle East, Africa and Europe. More than 250 of her photographs were exhibited in more than 34 countries, 65 salons. One of the warmest persons, she readily helps any young photographer.

10:00 AM – 12:00 PM : Basic Street Photography talk by Soumya Shankar Ghosal.
01:00 PM – 04:30 PM : Jomiye Adda ( Srivatsan Sankaran, Sayantan Mitra, Debarshi Duttagupta, Neelutpal Das)
On 31st of August, they shall have with them Srivatsan Sankaran, Debarshi Duttagupta, Sayantan Mitra and Neelutpal Das.
Srivatsan Sankaran is a software professional working with the Tatas. That does not stop him traveling the different destinations in India and bringing back to his followers – excellent photographs. His has had been awarded multiple times, his images bought by Getty images and all of these at the age of 24. For us organisors, he stands today as an inspiration to many younger photographers.
Debarshi Duttagupta shall be exhibiting his photographs of clouds. He is also into landscapes and people. He is the only Indian to have won the Nikon Grand Prix so far, in 2010-2011. He had exhibitions like in Nikon Salon, Japan (2011), Osaka Salon Japan (2011), Getty Images Gallery London (2011) to name a  few.
Sayantan Mitra is a reputed Food Photographer and one of the leads in the magazine Hyangla. He also does fashion photography. He explains every concept with minute details and is an excellent teacher.
Neelutpal Das shall be speaking about advertisements. He does editorials and fashion photography as well. From 2003, he has completed more than 500 commissioned assignments.
Special talks: We shall have a basic photography talk by Apratim Saha and a street photography talk by Soumya Shankar Ghosal.
Collaborating:
To collaborate, they shall be having the Kolkata Blogger’s Meet.
5:30 PM – 08:30 PM : Kolkata Bloggers Meet.
In Kolkata Bloggers Meet, they shall exhibit photographs by Mr. Sudip Roy. The speakers and moderators include Mr. Rangan Datta, Mr. Sourav Ghosh, Mr. Anirban Saha and moderators of Kolkata Bloggers (http://www.kolkatabloggers.com)
Mr. Rangan Datta is a travel writer turned blogger. Popularly known as the “Human Google of Kolkata”, he is an authority on Kolkata History. He blogs athttp://rangandatta.wordpress.com/
Mr. Sourav Ghosh is an entrepreneur. He blogs about spreading positivity, being happy and awareness of social media and its tools. He blogs at http://www.souravghosh.com/
Mr. Anirban Saha is a photo blogger. He photographs Kolkata and different folk cultures in Bengal. He blogs at http://www.anirbansaha.com/
Mr. Sudip Roy has a collection of photographs of Kolkata Buildings. He shall be showcasing them to the audience.

A few bloggers who blogs about Kolkata and about Photography will be exhibited.
The discussion shall cover these points:
1. How to use a photograph in a blog
2. How to ask for license and intellectual property rights.
3. How bloggers can use photographs of Kolkata based amateur photographers.
4. How amateur photographers can benefit from being published on personal blogs.
5. How they can submit photographs to Wikipedia.
6. How they can use photographs and blogs to promote the culture of the state.


Personal Branding:
05:30 PM – 08:30 PM : Personal Branding ( Suprit Patra, Saptarshi Roy Choudhury, Aji Issac Mathew )

On the last session of the event, they shall be having, Mr. Suprit Patra, Mr. Saptarshi Roy Choudhury and Mr. Aji Issac Mathew.
Mr. Suprit Patra is the cofounder of Gleecus. He had been the lead strategist of a national agency to being brand manager of a mobile development company. He uses his expertise to create compelling brand experiences for his clients. He shall be speaking on how brands use photographs and imagery to promote themselves.
Mr. Saptarshi RoyChoudhury is the Vice President of Purple Talk. He has experience of over 12 years in the industry and has served various global brands. In this event, he shall be speaking on how photographers can use the social media for their personal branding.
Mr. Aji Issac Mathew is the cofounder of Techshu. It is one of the leading digital marketers and brand makers based in Kolkata. With over 15 years of experience in digital marketing, Aji shall be speaking about “Advanced digital marketing mix” for photographer’s personal branding.
